Fashionable Winter Coats

Fashionable Winter Coats are something I want but are hard to find. The mid length wool coat is ubiquitous and can be charming in the right design hands but is so often a cookie cutter of one of the name houses cheapened by poor quality materials and bad cutting. This year's fashion in winter coats for women hasn't changed a lot.  A little more squaring off of the shoulders, a little less natural fur. The longer coats are still absolutely gorgeous when done right. Big roll collars are still in evidence and are superb to snuggle in to on a frigid and windy day.

Women's ski jackets are both stylish and practical. If it can keep it out at the summit of Wildcat, it can do it on main street.  Down and fleece can be found in both coats and jackets, removable linings are great if constructed right. Don't forget scarves, gloves and hats.

Some of the more adventurous designers like Philip Lim are mixing leather with other fabrics to get a somewhat boho look even in winter outer clothing. The belted trenches are everywhere and shearling can be seen although the designs favoring the feminine tend to steer away from it, feeling it's more suitable for the rugged, log cabin style. Michael Kors and Kate Spade are showing good looking trench coats with a tailored look to them.  The North Face's Denali jackets still look "in" and can't be beat for the worst of the January bluster. The old line Brit houses like Aquascutum and Burberry  have a wide selection of warm and weatherproof coats and their designers are pretty much with it as far as the latest changes.

I'm really not sure what "walking coats" are nor am I sure where the term came from.  They look like last years pea coats which sprang from car coats I suppose.  There are some good looking ones by most of the designers.  Not much really new in those categories, though. I fell for a Mackage A Line Topper and I may go back to it before I buy. Since we have had snow - yes I said snow - in October and November has seemed more like late summer early fall, anything is possible this winter and I just know that I'd better get my wardrobe straightened out before long. That snow will be back.
